Choose a movement you can repeat
Use this collection to compare setups before building your session. Open a technique guide to check the equipment, starting position, movement steps, and muscles involved. Similar exercises are alternatives, rather than a checklist to complete in one workout. Record your chosen variation and setup so you can compare the same movement when you return.
A simple place to start
Ab training can combine a controlled trunk movement with a bracing task. Start with a dead bug and cable crunch or a suitable alternative. Ab exercises do not selectively remove fat from the stomach.
Pick a progression you can record: reps, resistance, lever length, or a short controlled hold. Do not increase every variable together or turn the final reps into uncontrolled momentum.
| Exercise guide | Sets × reps | Technique cue |
|---|---|---|
| Dead Bug | 2 × 6–10 per side | Brace gently and move the opposite arm and leg only as far as you can keep the trunk controlled. |
| Cable Crunch | 2 × 10–15 | Use a stable kneeling position and controlled trunk motion rather than pulling with the arms. |
| Plank | 2 × 20–40 seconds | Keep a supported straight body line and stop before the position falls apart. |
| Reverse Crunch | 2 × 8–12 | Curl the pelvis smoothly without swinging the legs to generate momentum. |
| Side Bridge | 2 × 15–30 seconds per side | Use a manageable lever and keep the hips supported in a stable line. |
| Pallof Press | 2 × 8–12 per side | Stand side-on and press the handle forward while resisting rotation. |
Technique mistakes to watch for
- Extending a hold long after position has been lost
- Using hip or arm momentum to move a heavier cable load
- Expecting a core circuit to replace whole-body training or determine fat loss
Frequently asked questions
Will ab exercises burn belly fat?
They train the muscles and control of the trunk, but do not selectively remove fat from one area. Fat-loss planning depends on the wider activity and nutrition pattern.
Should I do every exercise on this list?
No. The list is an exercise menu. Start with the sample or a smaller dose that fits your current week. Similar alternatives replace a movement rather than adding every option to one workout.
How do I progress these exercises?
Record the same setup and actual completed reps. Build toward the upper rep target with consistent control, then try the smallest available load increase. Repeat or reduce work when the target or recovery is unsuitable.
