How to do deadlift
- Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart and the barbell on the ground in front of you.
- Bend your knees and hinge at the hips to lower your torso and grip the barbell with an overhand grip, hands slightly wider than shoulder-width apart.
- Keep your back straight and chest lifted as you drive through your heels to lift the barbell off the ground, extending your hips and knees.
- As you stand up straight, squeeze your glutes and keep your core engaged.
- Lower the barbell back down to the ground by bending at the hips and knees, keeping your back straight.
- Repeat for the desired number of repetitions.

Start with a version you can control. Record the same setup and range each time. Add reps or a small load increase when you can repeat the movement without changing the technique.

What muscles does deadlift work?
Deadlift primarily trains the back, with the legs and core contributing. The exact demand depends on your setup, range, and chosen load.
What is the best technique for deadlift?
Brace before moving the load and keep a secure grip. Let the hips drive the movement; keep the load close when the variation allows it. Finish tall without forcing a backward lean. Keep the same controlled range each rep.
