What should change when you leave Alpha Progression?
Alpha Progression and Trainer overlap on meaningful training jobs: plans, workout records, and help deciding a next target. The comparison therefore needs more care than placing AI next to a manual tracker. Start with what is included in the access level you want, how targets remain editable, and whether you need Android or wrist logging.
Alpha Progression’s published free tier includes manually created plans and unlimited logging, while Pro adds generation and progression recommendations. That distinction is more useful than calling the whole product either free or paid. If you already like your plan, the decision may be about recommendation access; if you need a new week built, it may be about planning controls.
Why consider Trainer?
Trainer links an equipment-aware plan to completed sets and editable load and rep suggestions. Core tracking, next-weight suggestions, saved/library programs, and history are free; optional AI features have account, consent, and allowance rules. Starter plans use onboarding answers, while library programs can keep their own schedules.
Trainer also supports Watch sets for routines already synced from iPhone, with weight, reps, and rest controls. The checked Alpha Progression page does not confirm a Watch logging workflow, which is different from proving there is none. If wrist use is your deciding factor, verify the current product status before moving. Trainer does not promise automatic import of Alpha Progression exports, even though Alpha Progression publishes data export.

When Alpha Progression is still the better fit
Stay with Alpha Progression if its rep-range approach and Pro tools fit the way you train. Cross-platform access can also be important if you use Android or want one recommendation for people with different phones. Trainer’s Apple-focused clients do not replace that requirement.
The free core is another reason to stay when manual plans and a good record are enough. Do not pay for generation merely because it exists, and do not leave solely because a chart or advanced setting sits in Pro. Name the feature you actually need during a normal workout before comparing the cost of the entire product.
The useful test: an exercise that progresses through a rep range
Imagine your current movement is tracked through a rep range rather than a single fixed rep target. Keep the actual completed sets visible and compare the replacement’s proposed next session. Does it help you choose a sensible next target without erasing the difference between the first set and the last? Can you edit the result to follow your plan?
Avoid treating a higher suggested number as proof of better coaching. The app comparison should test whether the target is understandable and connected to your record. If you change the exercise or rep scheme at the same time, create a clear new baseline. That keeps your evaluation focused on the workflow rather than on an assumed improvement in strength.
Before you move your routine
- Use Alpha Progression’s published export option to keep a readable archive of your training.
- Recreate the active routine and rep ranges in Trainer; direct import of that export format is not promised.
- Check next targets against actual recent sets and verify the first saved session before rebuilding older routines.
Keep the original archive until you have checked the new record. Exporting data from one product does not establish that another can import its format. Do not delete a useful history simply because your first new session looks right.

Frequently asked questions
What is free in Alpha Progression?
The official page publishes manually created plans and unlimited logging in the permanent free version. Plan generation and progression recommendations are Pro features.
Can Trainer import an Alpha Progression CSV?
A direct importer for that format is not promised. Keep the export as an archive and recreate the active routine. Trainer’s documented direct CSV imports cover Strong and Hevy.
Does this guide establish that Alpha Progression has no Watch app?
No. Watch logging is unconfirmed in the checked source. Verify current device support rather than converting an unknown into a negative claim.
Continue with the kind of alternative you need
Keep the comparison tied to your next actual session. A useful replacement should make the training job clearer while preserving the records and guidance you still need.
