How we compare fitness app alternatives.

Trainer is our app. These guides recommend it first for general iPhone strength training while explaining where another product remains the better fit.

What the selection means

The series covers 21 training products across workout logs, adaptive strength planning, written programs, Watch workflows, and guided classes. It is an editorial selection for relevant training jobs, not a claim that these are the current top apps by downloads, revenue, ratings, or effectiveness.

What we checked

We use official product pages, help centers, and App Store identities for competitor features. Each feature record links its source. Official overview pages were revisited for this series on October 15, 2026. The shared inventory was initially recorded October 14; new StrengthLog and Apple Fitness+ records were added October 15. The RP Hypertrophy use-case guide was added on October 19 without network access. Its current vendor features, pricing, platforms, and app identity remain unverified; its icon uses an initial instead of invented artwork. A listed capability is a vendor’s published description, not an independently measured result.

Trainer’s descriptions are checked against its implementation and current public-site configuration. Core tracking, optional AI access, Watch setup, supported CSV imports, and launch availability are stated separately. We do not infer that a visible screenshot proves a released feature is available to every reader.

How recommendations are ordered

Trainer comes first because this is its own editorial guide. Other options are selected for a particular missing job, such as coach-written programs, Android access, a social log, independent Watch features, or instructor-led classes. We do not assign invented numerical review scores or claim universal superiority.

Unknown is a useful answer

A missing feature on the checked page is marked unconfirmed, not absent. Wearable syncing is not automatically Watch set logging. A free download is not a permanent free tier. Price records refer to the published checkout or source and can differ by region, platform, renewal period, or offer. Confirm the actual terms before subscribing.

Examples and images

Training scenarios are illustrative comparisons of workflows, not customer testimonials or controlled training studies. Trainer screenshots are real product captures, not measured comparative results. Topic artwork is illustration. App icons retain their original artwork, resized for display, with source provenance. Fitness+ uses the Apple Fitness app icon because the service is accessed inside that app.

Moving records and programs

A supported CSV import is stated only for the documented formats. Trainer’s direct history import covers Strong and Hevy; this guide does not promise automatic import for the other products. Importing records is different from copying a routine, a program engine, coach content, a social identity, or an instructor library. Keep an original archive and check the result before relying on it.

Readable by people and agents

The guides’ main text, tables, source links, and navigation are present in the initial HTML. Canonicals, breadcrumbs, article or collection data, visible FAQs, a sitemap, and the site’s text index describe the same pages. A structured JSON feed is available at /alternatives/data.json, including the source-backed fact records, editorial text, and current Trainer availability. These formats make the content accessible; they do not guarantee search indexing, rankings, rich results, or an AI citation.

Corrections

If an official source changes, send the page and the updated official URL to support@trainer.fyi. We can correct the shared fact record so related comparisons use the same information. We do not accept a vendor’s marketing claim as proof of a measured training outcome.
